A former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, on Friday evening said Vice-President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who is aspiring for the presidency in 2023, “should be selling ice-cream” because he is “a good and nice man”.
He said this while featuring on a programme on Channels TV, monitored by Business Metrics Political Desk.
When asked if Yemi Osinbajo has a brand name that is marketable to the voters across the country, Shettima who has been up and running to sell the candidacy of Bola Tinubu noted that the vice president is a nice man and nice men are known to sell ice cream.
“Osinbajo is a good and nice man, but nice men don’t make good leaders. Nice men should be selling ice cream,” Shettima said.
Backing his candidate’s boasts about him helping Muhammadu Buhari to be president in 2015, Shettima said nobody can dispute Tinubu’s claims.
“He played a very crucial role in the ascendancy of President Buhari. I was a founding member of the APC; I can confirm this.”.
In addition, when questioned on the possibility of Bola Tinubu stepping down if President Buhari annoint a candidate, he maintained that Tinubu will not step down for anybody, describing him as “the elephant in the room”.
Kashim Shettima who is representing Borno Central Senatorial District had on different occasions vouched for the capacity and competency of Bola Tinubu.
At the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Support Groups Management Council Conference in Abuja, Shettima gave Tinubu the credit of being one of the leaders, shaping the country to greater heights. Kashim singled Tinubu as one of those leaders who are not tied to tribal or religious sentiments.
“Tinubu has a propensity for sacrificing his comfort to protect the country’s democracy.” He said, “so much has been said about this political enigma, by hacks, with a poor sense of history. The path that has led us to Asiwaju didn’t happen by chance.”
“He provided sanctuaries for fleeing patriots, who are very much around to testify to his large heart. Our younger patriots must be in the know, about Tinubu’s struggles from two decades past, when he was the backbone of the opposition, and how he was fiercely antagonised and politically ostracised by the ruling party, the PDP.” he said.
