The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly uncovered at least 17 houses linked to the suspended Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris.
The properties, according to anonymous source in EFCC, are located in London, Lagos, Kano, Dubai, and Abuja. The source however noted that preliminary investigations showed that the AGF allegedly used proxies to acquire these properties. The commission would therefore invite the proxies of the accountant-general.
The official noted that the properties linked to AGF Ahmed were purchased while he was in office but did not declare them to the Code of Conduct Bureau as stipulated by the law.
He added, “About 17 houses in London, Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Dubai have been traced to him. In Abuja, some of the houses are located in service estates.
Meanwhile, for the anti-graft agency to carry out a thorough and unhindered investigation into the allegation of fraud, the office of the Finance Minister had suspended the Accountant-General that was arrested on Monday, May 16.
The finance ministry in a statement on Wednesday said, “The AGF has been suspended by the finance minister. His suspension will be indefinite until the investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have been concluded”
