The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commissioned a groundbreaking e-Health project at the State Specialist Hospital in Akure, Ondo State.
This is part of its ongoing efforts to harness Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to revolutionise healthcare delivery across Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida, described the project as a significant milestone in integrating the health sector into Nigeria’s digital economy.
He emphasised that technology has the dual benefit of improving healthcare services and enabling citizens to contribute more productively to the economy through better health.
“The benefits of this project go beyond hospital walls. It enhances the quality of medical services and ensures accessibility regardless of geographical location,” Maida said.
The project, which equips the hospital with advanced ICT tools, is designed to facilitate timely diagnoses, accurate treatment plans, and efficient health record management.
The initiative also aims to boost patient satisfaction and improve overall health outcomes through digital transformation.
Dr. Maida stressed the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, noting that the successful implementation was made possible through a partnership between the NCC, technology experts, and government bodies.
He expressed hope that the model created in Akure would serve as a blueprint for similar e-health solutions across the country.
“This project is a testament to our commitment to innovation, research, and collaboration. It sets a precedent for nationwide replication,” he added.
The NCC’s move aligns with its broader strategy to deepen ICT adoption in underserved sectors and bridge the digital divide, ensuring that even healthcare delivery benefits from Nigeria’s growing digital infrastructure.
The commissioning ceremony concluded with a formal dedication of the project, reaffirming the NCC’s commitment to driving inclusive, tech-enabled healthcare for all Nigerians.
