In the build-up to the forthcoming primary elections, the National Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) Abdullah Adamu said he had discovered that delegates are selling their conscience for money, an action he berated.
He made this statement during an interview with Voice of America Hausa Service on Wednesday where he noted that there’s no evidence that aspirants are offering money to delegates as widely insinuated.
Meanwhile, Adamu said there’s no constitutional provision that forbids aspirants from taking electioneering campaigns to delegates across the country.
He said he discovered that delegates are hawking their conscience to the highest bidders, an action he said he doesn’t have a solution to as the national chairman of the ruling party.
“For now, there is no law against aspirants taking campaign to delegates. I don’t have evidence that aspirants are sharing money to delegates. For me it’s the delegates that are selling their conscience which is not proper.”
“Our delegates should know that anybody sharing money to them can’t be the right candidate of the party. He doesn’t mean well for the country. I don’t have solution for the problem,” he said.
On the 24th of May, the ruling party released new timetable for the forthcoming primary elections across the federation.
In the new timetable, the House of Representatives (LGA delegates) primaries will hold on May 27 and the primary election for Senate (LGA delegates) was fixed for May 28.
The governorship (state delegates) and State House of Assembly (Local Government Area (LGA) primaries would be held on May 26.
The primary election for Senate (LGA delegates) was fixed for May 27, while House of Representatives (LGA delegates) primaries was to be held on May 28.
The party maintained that the special convention for the presidential primaries will be held as scheduled from May 29 to May 30.
