MTN Pays N622.6bn in Taxes and levies in the first half of 2026, as the telecommunications company continued to rank among Nigeria’s biggest contributors to government revenue.

The telecom operator said it remitted N622.6 billion in taxes, levies and other statutory payments during the six months ended June 30, 2026.

ccording to the company, the N622.6 billion covers taxes, levies and other statutory payments made to federal, state and local government authorities.

The remittance comes as telecommunications operators continue to account for a significant share of government revenue through company income tax, value-added tax, spectrum fees, operating levies and other regulatory payments.

The tax payments were made during a period in which MTN Nigeria recorded revenue of N2.99 trillion, while profit after tax rose 70.6 per cent to N707.5 billion, supported by improved foreign exchange conditions and continued growth in data services.

Beyond its tax contributions, MTN Nigeria said it continued investing in network expansion and digital infrastructure to improve service quality and support growing demand for connectivity.

Chief Executive Officer Karl Toriola said the company delivered a strong operational and financial performance despite the challenging operating environment.

“We delivered a strong first-half performance, with sustained commercial momentum, improved profitability and robust cash generation,” Toriola said.

He added that the company remains focused on expanding network capacity, improving customer experience and supporting Nigeria’s digital economy through continued investment.

The latest figures show the scale of the telecommunications industry’s contribution to public revenue, alongside investments in network infrastructure and digital services.

Telecom operators remain among the country’s largest private investors, contributing billions of naira annually through taxes, licence fees, spectrum charges and infrastructure investments while supporting digital inclusion and economic growth.

For MTN Nigeria, the N622.6 billion remitted during the first half of 2026 reflects both its financial scale and its continued contribution to public revenue as demand for telecommunications and digital services continues to grow.
