FAAN Unveils New By-Laws to Strengthen Airport Operations After 21 Years

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has unveiled its 2025 by-laws, introducing the first comprehensive review of its regulatory framework in 21 years as part of efforts to improve airport governance and operational efficiency across the country’s aviation sector.

The authority said the revised regulations replace the previous by-laws, last reviewed in 2005, and are intended to address the changing demands of modern airport management while aligning FAAN’s operations with current industry realities and international best practices.

The new framework was unveiled on Thursday by the Chairman of the FAAN Board, Abdullahi Ganduje, who described the review as a significant step towards strengthening institutional governance within the authority.

“The revised by-laws represent a major milestone in improving airport governance and operational efficiency,” Ganduje said, while commending the authority’s management for updating the legal framework to reflect developments in the aviation industry.

Speaking at the event, FAAN Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Olubunmi Kuku, said the previous regulations had become outdated and no longer reflected the realities of today’s aviation environment.

According to her, the FAAN 2025 by-laws were developed to support the authority’s evolving operational responsibilities while ensuring it remains responsive to emerging challenges facing the aviation industry.

She explained that the revised framework would provide a comprehensive operational guide for FAAN employees, airport users, concessionaires, airlines and other stakeholders across Nigeria’s airport network.

“The 2025 by-laws have been developed to align with current realities in the aviation sector and FAAN’s evolving operational framework,” Kuku said.

She added that the updated regulations would promote safer, more secure and commercially viable airport operations while supporting efficient service delivery.

FAAN said the revised framework reinforces its commitment to regulatory compliance, operational excellence and improved customer service.

The authority noted that the updated by-laws are expected to enhance coordination among stakeholders, improve operational consistency and strengthen governance across airports under its management.

The framework also seeks to ensure that airport operations comply with evolving industry standards while supporting sustainable growth within Nigeria’s aviation sector.

FAAN said the revised by-laws provide a modern legal and operational framework that will support safer airport operations, strengthen institutional accountability and improve service delivery across the country’s airport system.
