Dangcem leads bulls to N334bn gain as week opens
Dangote Cement led charges as the Nigerian equity market on Monday sustained its positive outlook to close the opening session of the week in the green territory.
Overall, the Nigerian Stock Exchange All Share index (NSEASI) and market capitalisation rose further by 1.73 per cent.
This was a record against the odd of flat sentiments, measured by market breadth that closed with emergence of 23 gainers against 23 decliners.
Consequently, the All-Share Index grew by 638.65 basis points or 1.73 per cent from 36,804.75 index points last Friday to 37,443.40.
The market capitalisation of stocks at the bourse appreciated by N334 billion to close at N19.57 trillion from N19.24 trillion.
On the activity chart, the insurance sub-sector dominated in volume terms as 153.47 million shares exchanged in 766 deals.
The sub-sector was enhanced by the activities in the shares of AIICO Insurance Plc and AXA-Mansard Plc.
The premium sub-sector boosted by the activities in the shares of UBA Plc and Zenith Bank Plc followed with 61.84 million units traded in 1,770 deals.
In all, investors exchanged a total of 427.06 million shares valued at NN3.31 billion in 5,263 deals.
According to the trading data for the session, Dangote Cement led the gainer with N20.90 gain to close at N230.40 per share. BOGAS trailed with N0.72 to close at N7.92 per share.
Other gainers include Flourmill, WAPCO and PZ Cusson, adding N0.65, N0.50 and N0.35 to their prices to close at N26.65, N22.50 and N5.35 per share respectively.
On the flip side, ARDOVA led 22 other decliners by shedding N0.75 to close at N13.55 per share. ZenithBank followed with N0.50 loss to close at N24.30 per share.
ETERNA, Unilever and GUARANTY followed suit with N0.45, N0.40 and N0.25 losses to close the week’s opening session at N4.10, N13.95 and N33.50 per share in that order.
