The FCCPC said deceptive or incomplete labelling violates consumers’ right to information and could expose them to health, safety and economic risks.
The directive was issued under provisions of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, 2018.
Manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers have been directed to immediately review their inventories and remove non-compliant products from sale. Businesses that continue selling such products risk regulatory enforcement action.
The Commission also advised consumers to check product labels before purchase and avoid goods with missing, illegible, altered or misleading information.
It said it would strengthen nationwide market surveillance and enforcement in collaboration with regulators including the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
