Nigeria Education Transformation Begins With Data, Federal-State Partnership – Alausa

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating Nigeria education transformation through stronger collaboration with state governments, improved education data systems and sustainable reforms designed to enhance learning outcomes nationwide.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, made the commitment while addressing the Executive Retreat for Honourable Commissioners of Education.

According to the minister, meaningful reform in the education sector depends on effective partnerships between the Federal Government and state governments, alongside reliable data and decisive leadership.

Alausa said the deployment of the National Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI) and the Digitalised Nigeria Education Management Information System (DNEMIS) would strengthen education planning, improve accountability, enhance resource allocation and support evidence-based decision-making across the country.

The minister also urged state governments to leverage the World Bank-supported HOPE Education Programme, which provides US$552 million in performance-based financing to strengthen education governance, improve teacher quality and raise learning outcomes.

He encouraged participating states to complete the required implementation processes to qualify for and access the available funding.

Alausa further stated that the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) remains focused on expanding foundational learning, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, digital learning and sustainable education financing.

The Federal Ministry of Education reiterated its commitment to working with state governments, development partners and other stakeholders to build an inclusive, resilient and globally competitive education system that equips Nigerian learners with the knowledge and skills needed for national development.
