Retired Brig. Gen. Sani Usman on Thursday advised federal authorities to install cameras on telecom masts in Nigeria to check insecurity.

The former Army Director of Public Relations said the cameras can be used to monitor bandits and terrorists.

Usman made the suggestion at the 11th National Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Institution of Space Engineers (NISE) in Abuja.

“The Federal Government should consider the installation of cameras on telecommunication masts that are within kidnapping and banditry prone areas,” he said.

Usman also called for policies and strategies on security that are science and technology based.

The retired General noted that while the government tackles banditry and kidnapping, preventive measures must be mapped out.

The deployment of Information, Communication Technology facilities, according to him, would aid intelligence and operations.

“The NISE should intensify collaboration with security agencies to expand space technology to address challenges in Nigeria”, he urged.

Usman charged National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and other relevant regulatory agencies to deploy assets to secure the country.
