Nigeria’s Crude Oil Output Hits 1.53m bpd in September, Exceeds OPEC Quota for Fifth Month

Nigeria’s crude oil production averaged 1.53 million barrels per day (bpd) in September 2026, exceeding its Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) quota of 1.5 million bpd for the fifth consecutive month, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The latest production data showed that Nigeria’s daily crude oil and condensate output peaked at 1.84 million barrels during the month, while the lowest daily production stood at 1.68 million barrels.

In crude oil terms, excluding condensates, the average production of 1.53 million bpd represented 102 per cent of Nigeria’s OPEC quota.

Data released by the NUPRC on October 13 showed that Nigeria maintained production at or above its assigned quota from May through September 2026.

The country produced 1.53 million bpd in May, 1.55 million bpd in June, 1.51 million bpd in July, 1.50 million bpd in August and 1.53 million bpd in September.

The commission attributed the performance to stable production operations across most producing assets and the absence of major pipeline outages during the period.

“The improved performance was primarily driven by stable production operations across most producing assets and the absence of any major pipeline outages during the period under review,” the NUPRC said.

It added that the conditions supported improved production uptime and crude evacuation efficiency.

“The sustained growth recorded in September reflects the continued commitment of operators and industry stakeholders towards improving operational efficiency, maintaining asset integrity, and enhancing production reliability across the Nigerian upstream petroleum sector,” the commission said.

A breakdown of daily average crude oil and condensate production by terminal showed that Forcados Terminal accounted for 320,320 bpd, while Bonny Terminal followed with 303,270 bpd.
