“We Shall Protect the Integrity of JAMB,” Says Segun Aina

The New JAMB Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, has pledged to protect the integrity of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), declaring that fairness, transparency and accountability will guide every decision under his leadership.

Aina said preserving the credibility of the examination body is essential to ensuring that every qualified candidate has a fair opportunity to access tertiary education.

“We shall protect the integrity of JAMB with everything the law permits. Integrity is not merely one of our values; it is the foundation upon which every other achievement rests.”

He added that technology and operational efficiency can only deliver meaningful results when built on public trust.

“Without integrity, technology becomes a tool for manipulation; without integrity, efficiency loses its meaning; without integrity, public confidence disappears.”

The new registrar signalled a tougher stance against examination malpractice, warning that impersonators, certificate forgers, cybercriminals and corrupt officials seeking to undermine the admission process would face stronger enforcement.

According to Aina, JAMB will deepen collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders while deploying technology, intelligence gathering and enhanced institutional oversight to detect, prevent and prosecute examination fraud.

He stressed that every fraudulent admission deprives a deserving candidate of a legitimate opportunity.

“Every admission obtained through dishonest means denies a qualified candidate a legitimate opportunity.”

Beyond tackling malpractice, Aina said the Board will simplify examination registration procedures, strengthen communication with candidates and educational institutions, and deploy technology to improve operational efficiency.

He noted that the reforms are designed to reduce the anxiety many candidates and parents experience during registration and admission exercises.

According to him, JAMB will continue building a transparent, accessible and citizen-focused institution where users receive timely information and professional support.

Aina thanked President Bola Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to justify the appointment through diligent service and unwavering commitment to the public interest.

He also acknowledged the support of the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, promising to work closely with the Federal Ministry of Education to advance ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s education sector.

The new registrar paid tribute to former leaders of the Board, particularly his immediate predecessor, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose reforms he said strengthened public confidence in JAMB and improved the institution’s reputation.

Reflecting on his appointment, Aina described it as a full-circle moment, recalling that he served at JAMB as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member nearly two decades ago.

He said his administration would build on the Board’s achievements while positioning it to respond to the changing needs of students, tertiary institutions and the country’s education system.
