NSE remains bullish as dividend information powers sentiment

Sentiment remains positive at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) as investors continue to have good days with the released of Half-year results of some dividend-paying stocks particularly from the banking segment of the market.

The NSE reveals in its Thursday trading statistics that investors closed the session on a positive note with N27 billion profit leading to 0.2 per cent appreciation in the aggregate price value of the equities market.

The NSE All-Share Index (ASI) added 51.02 points to close at 25,511.02 basis points while monetary value of stocks closed higher at N13.309 trillion.

The session also closed positive in terms of both breadth and turnover following emergence of 19 gainers against six declining stocks and 11 others that closed on unchanged prices.

Similarly, activity level improved as volume and value of traded jacked up by 28.07 per cent and 17.2 per cent respectively.

NSE’s data further showed that MTN propped the day’s gain significantly as it appreciated by N0.60 to close at N118.60 per share. Vitafoam trailed with N0.28 gain to close at N5.78 per share.

Other gainers include UACN and Zenith Bank Plc, gaining N0.25 each to close at N6.20 and N17.20 per share respectively while FCMB trailed with N0.10 to close the session at N2.2 per share.

On the flip side, the decliners were led by NEIMETH which shed N0.13 to close N1.87 while Sterling Bank followed with N0.06 loss to close at N1.19 per share.

AIICO lost N0.05 to close at N0.90 per share while both Transcorp and Fidelity declined by N0.10 to close at N0.58 and N1.80 per share respectively.

Activities were driven mostly by Transcorp as investors traded 70.616 million shares of the company valued at N40.062 million. ZenitBank pushed 25.491 million shares worth N435.192 million to emerge as the highest in terms of value of trade and second on the volume chart.

While LASACO traded third highest volume at N17.103 million shares, MTN and GUARANTY traded second and third highest values at N186.153 million and N166.833 million respectively.

The day closed with 232.216 million shares worth N1.315 billion traded in 3,377 deals compared with 181.321 million shares valued at N1.122 billion that exchanged hands in 3,408 trades the previous session.
