MTN Nigeria has pledged a total of N3 billion in support of the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program, reinforcing its commitment to Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, announced the development on Tuesday, highlighting the crucial role of public-private partnerships in building a digitally empowered workforce.
“I want to acknowledge MTN Nigeria’s long-term backing of the 3MTT initiative, with a cumulative investment of N3 billion since inception,” Tijani stated, indicating that the telecom giant has supported the program from its early stages.
MTN: An Early Supporter of 3MTT
According to the Minister, MTN has been instrumental in expanding access to digital skills training for thousands of young Nigerians across the country.
“This type of consistent collaboration is central to achieving our vision of preparing a future-ready workforce and positioning Nigeria as a net exporter of tech talent,” he said. “As we scale the 3MTT program, we look forward to strengthening these partnerships to unlock more opportunities for our people and economy.”
Broader Support Grows
MTN’s contribution follows a N1 billion grant from the Airtel Africa Foundation, announced earlier in March, and a separate N1 billion agreement with IHS Towers, aimed at creating tech learning communities nationwide.
The partnership with IHS Towers also includes a commitment to fund salaries for 37 learning community managers—one for each state and the FCT—for a period of three years.
About the 3MTT Program
Dr. Tijani emphasized that the 3MTT initiative is a key pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda, focused on developing Nigeria’s tech talent base to support the digital economy.
- The program launched with 30,000 participants—1% of the overall 3 million target.
- An additional 270,000 trainees have since been onboarded in a second cohort, bringing the total to 10% of the goal.
- Future phases will be rolled out based on a framework co-created with stakeholders from government, the private sector, academia, development agencies, and training providers.
The 3MTT curriculum covers a wide range of in-demand skills, including:
- Digital Marketing
- Project Management Tools
- Cloud Platform Navigation
- Data Analysis and Visualization
- SEO and CRM Management
- Accounting Software
- Graphic Design
- UX/UI Design
These skills are targeted not only at tech creation but also at enhancing non-technical roles through digital empowerment.
