The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development on Wednesday said it had begun the disbursement of the Federal Government cash grant for vulnerable groups in Kano State.

It said a total of 9,925 would receive a one-off payment of N20,000 each to address poverty and other economic challenges. This implies that the government would disburse N198.5m to the beneficiaries.

The humanitarian Minister, Sadiya Farouq, disclosed this in Kano when she flagged-off the programme in the state alongside the digitised payment for Conditional Cash Transfer and the national sensitisation exercise for the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme.

A statement issued in Abuja by the minister’s aide, Nneka Anibeze, stated that Farouq, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Nasir Gwarzo, stated that since the commencement of the National Social Investment Programmes in 2016, many lives in Nigeria been positively impacted.

“While the target of this cash grant project is to increase income and productive assets of the target beneficiaries, it is highly expected that the beneficiaries will use it to improve their productivity, create wealth, generate employment and improve their living standard,” Farouq said.

She added, “President Muhammadu Buhari, through his deliberate social inclusion agenda has directed that 70 per cent of these beneficiaries must be women, while the remaining 30 per cent is for the youths.
