Real Madrid beat Barcelona in the 250th El Clasico to go top of La Liga and give the Catalan outfit their first

league defeat of the season.

The defeat was a first away La liga defeat for Xavi for almost a year in charge of Barcelona.

The two teams prior to today’s meeting have seven wins and a draw from their opening eight games while Real Madrid go three points clear at the top of the table to remain unbeaten in the league.

French international, Karim Benzema opened scoring for Madrid in the 12th minutes after converting Vinicius Jr’s shot parried into his path by Barcelona shot stopper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Federico Valverde doubled the champions’ lead before half-time with a powerful 20-yard drive from Ferland Mendy layoff.

Ferran Torres gave Catalan giant hope of a comeback when he pulled one back in the 83rd minutes from Robert Lewandowski flick-on before Rodrygo sealed the Real win with a penalty in the 90th minutes.

The defeat means Barcelona are within three points off top of the table in La liga but this is El Clasico – a game managers dare not lose.
