Electric mobility company Spiro has appointed Auroasish Choudhuri as its Managing Director for West and Central Africa as the company moves to expand its operations and electric mobility services across the continent.
Choudhuri will report to Spiro’s Mobility CEO, Kaushik Burman, and will oversee efforts to strengthen the company’s mobility business, expand its services and support upcoming market launches across Africa.
The appointment comes as Spiro enters a new phase of growth following its latest funding round, with the company seeking to scale its electric motorcycle and battery-swapping network across African markets.
Spiro operates an integrated electric mobility model that combines electric motorcycles with battery-swapping stations, allowing riders to replace depleted batteries with fully charged ones.
The company currently has more than 130,000 electric motorcycles on the road and has completed over 50 million battery swaps.
Choudhuri brings more than two decades of international automotive experience across Africa, Asia, Central and South America, with expertise spanning sales, business development, market expansion and business transformation.
Before joining Spiro, he served as Chief Executive Officer of DAG Industries, where he led operations across Nigeria and Benin.
He previously held senior regional leadership positions at TVS Motor, overseeing the company’s businesses across Central and South America.
He also worked with Escorts Kubota, where he was responsible for international sales and business development across markets including the United States, Latin America, West Asia and Sri Lanka.
Spiro Group CEO, Anant Badjatya, said Choudhuri’s experience in growing and transforming automotive businesses would support the company’s expansion across Africa.
“Auroasish brings extensive experience in growing and transforming automotive businesses across some of the world’s most dynamic markets,” Badjatya said.
He added that Choudhuri’s understanding of the automotive sector and track record in market expansion and operational leadership would be an asset as Spiro scales its operations.
Choudhuri said he was excited to join Spiro and use his automotive and West African market experience to support the company’s next phase of growth.
“Africa is entering an exciting new phase in the transformation of mobility,” he said.
The appointment follows Spiro’s recent appointment of Huy Chieu as Chief Development Officer.
Chieu, a former programme engineering manager at General Motors, joined Spiro with nearly three decades of experience in vehicle engineering, product development, manufacturing, supply chain and operational scale-up.
