PalmPay Partners Police Cybercrime Centre to Strengthen Fraud Prevention Awareness

PalmPay has partnered with the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) to strengthen cybersecurity awareness and promote fraud prevention, supporting the centre’s 2026 Cybersecurity Awareness Walk for the second consecutive year.

The walk, held on October 17, 2026, formed part of a three-day programme themed “Towards a Resilient Cyberspace”, aimed at raising public awareness of cyber threats and encouraging safer online practices.

The fintech company said its participation reflects its commitment to building a safer digital ecosystem through stakeholder collaboration, customer education and improved digital security practices.

Speaking at the event, PalmPay Nigeria Managing Director, Chika Nwosu, said collaboration and continuous education remain critical to combating cybercrime as digital threats, including phishing and social engineering, become increasingly sophisticated.

“Our continued participation reflects our commitment to combating cybercrime and promoting a safer digital space for Nigerians. As cyber threats such as phishing and social engineering become increasingly sophisticated, equipping people with the knowledge and tools to recognise and prevent fraud is more important than ever,” Nwosu said.

He commended the NPF-NCCC for its efforts to improve cybersecurity awareness, noting that technology alone cannot eliminate cybercrime without proactive customer education.

According to him, PalmPay’s “PalmPay Dey For You” campaign educates customers on how to identify scams, use official customer support channels and protect sensitive account information, including personal identification numbers (PINs), passwords and one-time passwords (OTPs).

“By strengthening security measures with our robust digital security systems and raising awareness, we can reduce vulnerabilities and create a digital ecosystem that inspires greater trust and adoption,” he added.

Also speaking at the programme, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Kenechukwu Onwuemelie said the campaign reflected the Inspector-General of Police’s commitment to a comprehensive approach to internal security through public sensitisation, stakeholder collaboration and preventive measures.

He urged Nigerians to embrace the campaign’s central message: “Think Before You Click and Verify Before You Share.”

PalmPay said it continues to promote safer digital financial practices through customer education and security features available in its app’s Security Center, encouraging users to take proactive steps to protect their accounts.

The initiative comes amid growing concerns about digital fraud, phishing attacks and other forms of cybercrime targeting users of online financial services. Such threats can undermine consumer confidence and expose individuals to financial losses, reinforcing the importance of preventive education alongside technological safeguards.

Through its collaboration with the NPF-NCCC and targeted fraud prevention initiatives, PalmPay said it remains committed to promoting secure digital financial services and helping Nigerians transact with greater confidence.
