The Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association (GCIOBA) and ipNX Nigeria Limited have partnered to provide campus-wide fibre internet connectivity at Government College Ibadan (GCI).
The project, led by the GCIOBA North America branch, provides a fibre backbone connecting 29 buildings across the school, with enterprise-grade wireless connectivity deployed within each building.
The infrastructure is expected to serve more than 2,250 students and staff, supporting teaching, learning, research and school administration.
The partnership is part of ipNX’s corporate social responsibility initiative to provide broadband internet access to public secondary schools within its network coverage at no cost.
Olawale Babalakin, president of GCIOBA, said the initiative would help students access the tools required to compete in a digital economy.
“Preserving that legacy requires us to prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s world,” Babalakin said.
He said the association was committed to ensuring that students had access to the opportunities, tools and learning environment needed to compete globally.
Ejovi Aror, group managing director of ipNX, described digital infrastructure as an essential component of modern education.
“Digital infrastructure is no longer optional for education; it is foundational,” Aror said.
He said the partnership would create an environment for innovation, collaboration and improved learning outcomes beyond providing internet access.
The project was highlighted at the 2026 GCIOBA Lagos Branch Annual Luncheon, where it was welcomed by alumni, stakeholders and invited guests.
The event also featured posthumous merit awards for Burian Carew, founder of Telnet Nigeria and an ICT industry pioneer, and Blackie Aror, father of the ipNX managing director.
The awards recognised their contributions to Nigeria’s technology and education sectors.
GCIOBA said the digital infrastructure would help modernise the learning environment at Government College Ibadan while supporting the school’s educational legacy.
